Code of Conduct

All attendees, including speakers, workshop organizers, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, and staff are expected to follow this Code of Conduct. It applies throughout the conference, including scientific sessions, workshops, social events, online activities, and conference-related communications and activities. By registering to this conference, participants confirm that they have read and agree to comply with these guidelines.

Expected behavior

BLS9 is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity or expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance or body size, race or ethnicity, religion, nationality, or career stage.

Participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect and professionalism.
  • Respect differing viewpoints, backgrounds, identities, and levels of experience.
  • Follow the instructions of conference organizers, session chairs, venue staff, and security personnel.
  • Respect the venue, conference facilities, and other participants.

Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, unwanted sexual attention, unwelcome physical contact, stalking, sustained disruption, and offensive or degrading comments or imagery are not acceptable. Explicit language or imagery is not appropriate in presentations, workshops, social events, conference spaces, or online communications. Participants asked to stop inappropriate behavior must comply immediately.

This requirement also applies to sponsors and exhibitors. Promotional materials, displays, activities, and interactions must be appropriate for a professional scientific meeting.

Reporting concerns

If you experience or witness harassment, discrimination, or other inappropriate behavior, please contact a member of the conference organizing team or conference staff as soon as possible. Staff will be identifiable by conference badges and/or branded clothing.

The organizing team will treat reports seriously and, where possible, maintain confidentiality. Depending on the circumstances, staff may assist with contacting venue security or local authorities, arranging an escort, or identifying other appropriate support.

Enforcement

The organizers may take any action considered appropriate in response to behavior that violates this Code of Conduct. This may include a private or formal warning, removal from a session or event, restriction of access to conference activities, or expulsion from the conference without a refund, where applicable. Serious incidents may be reported to the venue or relevant authorities.

Punctuality and scheduled contributions

All scientific talks, workshops, poster sessions, and other scheduled contributions have defined time limits. Presenters and participants are expected to arrive on time and comply with the assigned schedule.

Session chairs and conference organizers may interrupt or stop a presentation that exceeds its allotted time to maintain the scientific program. Poster presenters are expected to be available during their designated poster session. Organizers may adjust the program when necessary to keep sessions running on schedule.
