Welcome

Dear colleagues, we are delighted to announce that the 9th International Bio-Logging Science Symposium (BLS9) will be held on 18–22 October 2027 in Sevilla, Spain. We warmly invite you to save these dates and join us for what promises to be an exciting and engaging meeting.

BLS9 will be hosted at Sevilla Aquarium, a unique venue located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, providing an exceptional setting for scientific exchange at the interface between aquatic and terrestrial systems.

Beyond the symposium venue, Sevilla offers a vibrant and stimulating backdrop for the meeting. As a city rich in history, culture, and architectural beauty, Sevilla combines centuries of scientific and cultural heritage with a lively contemporary atmosphere. Its walkable historic centre, Mediterranean climate, and renowned gastronomy create an ideal environment for informal discussions, networking, and collaboration beyond the conference sessions.

BLS9 will bring together an international and interdisciplinary community working on the development and application of bio-logging technologies across a wide range of species and environments: terrestrial, aerial, and aquatic. These approaches are rapidly transforming our understanding of animal movement, behaviour, physiology, and energetics, as well as animal responses to environmental change and anthropogenic stressors.

The scientific programme will feature keynote lectures, contributed talks, and poster sessions covering a wide range of current and emerging topics such as:

  • Movement ecology and behavioural strategies
  • Physiology, energetics, and internal processes
  • Responses to environmental variability and anthropogenic disturbance
  • Climate change impacts and habitat use
  • Advances in biologging technology, data management, and analytical methods

By fostering exchange across taxa, ecosystems, and methodological approaches, BLS9 aims to promote innovation, comparative perspectives, and collaboration that are increasingly important for advancing ecological and conservation science in a rapidly changing world.

Date: 18–22 October 2027

Workshops are planned for 17 October, followed by an Icebreaker event on 18 October, providing early opportunities for networking and discussion.

Detailed information on the venue, scientific program, abstract submission, and important dates will be made available on this website in the coming months. We encourage you to register your interest and stay informed by visiting bls9sevilla.com

We look forward to welcoming you to Sevilla for BLS9 in October 2027.
